IBM AIX: The future of UNIX
The AIX® operating system (OS) is an open standards-based, UNIX®
operating system that allows you to run the applications you want, on
the hardware you want—IBM UNIX OS-based servers. More and more
businesses are choosing the AIX operating system (OS) running on IBM
Power Systems. AIX exploits decades of IBM technology innovation and is
designed to provide the highest level of performance, security and
reliability of any UNIX operating system.
Key benefits of IBM AIX on IBM Power
Unmatched performance
Virtualization
Security
Simple migration
Workload optimization
Broad application support
AIX in combination with IBM's virtualization offerings, provides new levels of flexibility and performance to allow consolidation of workloads on fewer servers which can increase efficiency and conserve energy. AIX delivers high levels of security, integration, flexibility and reliability—essential for meeting the demands of today's information technology environments. AIX operates on the IBM systems based on Power Architecture® technology.
AIX Version 7.2
The latest version of the AIX® operating system, Version 7.2, brings
UNIX computing to the next level. AIX V7 includes industry leading
business continuity features that allow businesses to secure the
infrastructure and apply critical patches on a running kernel. Other
sophisticated innovations improve flexibility and performance
enhancements. Despite all of these enhancements, AIX V7 is fully binary
compatible with earlier releases of the AIX operating system.
AIX Version 7.1
The latest version of the AIX® operating system, Version 7.1, brings
UNIX computing to the next level. AIX 7 includes virtualization features
that can help dramatically increase server utilization and consolidate
workloads for more efficient management. AIX 7 also includes
sophisticated security and availability features to help insure that
systems are secure and highly available. AIX 7 represents the latest
advance in a long record of IBM operating system innovation. Despite all
of these enhancements, AIX 7 is fully binary compatible with AIX 6, AIX
5L and even earlier releases of the AIX operating system.
AIX Version 6.1
AIX® operating system, Version 6.1 brings UNIX computing to the next
level. AIX 6 includes new virtualization features that can help
dramatically increase server utilization and consolidate workloads for
more efficient management. AIX 6 also includes sophisticated new
security and availability features to help insure that systems are
secure and highly available. AIX 6 represents the latest advance in a
long record of IBM operating system innovation. Despite all of these
enhancements, AIX Version 6.1 is fully binary compatible with AIX 5L™
and even earlier releases of the AIX operating system.
